Hubbys brother and his wife are being offered a job in
Arlington Washington at one of the churches up there, and so it looks like they
are moving to Washington! This is really exciting for them because they have
been living with hubs parents for a year after losing their job in Arizona. They
have been looking and praying for a new opportunity and this looks like it’s
it! So this got hubs and my wheels turning… what if we followed them? I have
been itching to move for the past three years. I think it’s leftover from being
an Army Brat… so I am more than ready for new horizons. Why not Washington? I
mean… its completely hypothetical right now, there would be a lot to figure
out.. and a timeline for making things happen. But we have been talking about
it nonstop for the past week, thinking how we know we want to move somewhere and having family in the same
new place would be a safe tie and still a new experience. And it would be
easier for his parents to visit and kill two birds. (Sorry Bry, DC will never
be on the table. Been there, done that).
Soooooo. Washingtonians… tell me about Washington. We wouldn't go anymore than a couple hours outside where they are… Seattle areaish,
so around there. Whats the weather actually look like
(pleasedontsayrainallthetimepleasedontsayrainallthetime)? Each season? Snow? Traffic?
What in the world do you eat if there isn’t a Chick Fil A or Cracker Barrel?!
<That is my most pressing question… hubs laughed at me when I brought it up
first.
And if anyone has connections at companies looking at IT or
systems admins pass those along! I think we want to get some sort of ball
rolling early in the new year.
Eeee I hope it works out.
Ps. Ali how do you even prounounce where you live. Sammamish?! Thats a made up word! Sam-amish (like the horse and buggy people?) Suh-mam-ish? Samma-mish? "S-something?"
I finally figured out the pronunciation of places around me... now id have to learn a whole new set of words! (or sound like an outsider) "oh... you must be new." eeeeffffff.
Oh my gosh oh my gosh oh my gosh!!! Move up here!!!!! It is sooooo amazing!!! Of course we moved from Michigan which makes the weather adjustment super easy (going from extreme to mild weather) but unfortunately the reason why people say it rains so much here is because of the Californians... Some just cant take it... I'm not going to lie. It rains a lot from October to April but our summers are ahhhhmaaaaazzing! I honestly don't recall the last time it rained and even when it does rain it is really a mist not a downpour like I'm used to in the Midwest.
ReplyDeleteSad to say, there are no chick fil a (I've never even eaten there) nor Cracker Barrel but we make do with lots of other yummy local stuff - less chain food here... I think it is the Pacific Northwest treehugger stereotype in effect but I like it :) we can help with it job referrals! Tyler works at a large software company that does something with windows... You might know that one ;) and we have friends at a company that made up its name but it turned into a popular verb among many other IT related companies in the greater Seattle area ;) we will have to tlk more about Mark's background and passion but we defintely have lots of contacts!
back to the weather - like I said it is mild so summers are generally 70-80s with an occasional hot week or two in the 90s (kicker is that there isn't air conditioning in most homes but its usually not a problem). Winters get down to 40-50s again with the occasional week of snow that shuts down the entire area even if there is just a light snowfall that doesn't even stick... Just google (oh is that a verb now?) "Seattle snopocalypse" and you will see the ridiculousness. It is wonderful to hole up and cuddle on those snow days!
Traffic is a nightmare during rush hour (but i hear not as bad as CA) which starts at 4 and ends at 7pm at night and I don't honestly know what time it is in the morning cuz I just am not a morning person and skip it ;) it's over by 9:30 at least.
The city we live in is your second pronunciation version: Sah-ma'am-ish. It is a wonderful place and I've been told it has been ranked as number one safest place to live in the nation by some source. Of course I had no idea before we moved here... Just luck I guess! There are a ton of strange named cities around here! All Indian related i believe but you learn em quick :)
If u guys ever want to come visit and see the area before deciding you are moooore then welcome to come visit and stay with us and we could show ya around :) we have been here for five years now and have made it our home. Never looking back and I can see us here forever :) email, call or message me and we can really get into it!!!
Oh another note I was trying to talk Ty into road tripping down to CA this summer but he said we need to tackle some shorter long road trips with Viv first... Haha, it makes sense to see what we'd be getting ourselves into ;) it would be so fun if you guys came up here... Viv and Asher would make an adorable couple ;)
Ok. Novel over... Let's talk!
COME!!! And we ARE getting a chick-fil-a in Tacoma!! It's all the rage:) you can also stay with us too!! We have a king guest bed- we are working on another one too haha- Washington is expanding:) We have tons of outlet malls and regular malls too.
ReplyDeleteSo the weather is comparable to Germany- we do have a 'rainy' season- but the summers are wonderful- and the nicest thing about Washington is that when is it sunny everyone is out doing something! There is so much to do! You can go to different parts of the state for snow, etc- I think we only had one day of snow last year but the year before that it was 2 weeks or so :)
Traffic is bad- but not as bad as the East Coast.
No beaches... that's my downfall- I miss those a lot.
There are lots of places people can't say:) Native American Names.
My hubs is from Texas and he proudly calls WA his home- we both absolutely love it here. We are about an hour south of Seattle- and I have a few friends in the federal way area- which is also very nice. We just bought a house and will def retire here after the Army sends us where-ever..
I'm a day past my due date and getting anxious :)
