I left off at arriving at the in-laws Saturday morning. We got
up to the door and no one was home. Imagine our surprise. We had gotten up
early, and had this amazing surprise planned and no one was home. Figures. The door
was unlocked for us though, so we went in and put our stuff away and waiting
for his family to return. His brother and wife and their kids plus his other sister
all arrived within 10 minutes and then it was just his parents missing. We were
told they were helping a neighbor move and would be back within 10 or so
minutes, but they wanted Hubs to come say hi because he knew the people. He took
the new car and left while I chatted with everyone else and had lunch. Hubby and
his parents came back a little while later in the new car and his parents were
really excited and surprised for our new car addition. They still had no idea
about the baby.
For background. This weekend did not go as planned. We had
been planning to reveal our secret for a couple months when we were up there,
but only to his immediate family. Not extended. We had this whole scavenger hunt
for around the town planned that ended with a balloon gender reveal at the
park. Literally 4 days before we drove up we find out his aunt, uncle, other
uncle, two cousins, and one boyfriend were all going to be up that weekend too
staying at grandma and grandpa’s house next door. By next door I mean, next. Door.
Can have a three year old throw a rock from one door to the other and still
make contact. There goes our plan. The doors on both houses are revolving when
family is up and everyone is just in and out all the time. This kind of ruined
my carefully thought out months of preparation. We couldn’t all go run and get
in the cars and leave for a while for our hunt without answering questions
about what we were doing. So after a bitter two days of wallowing… I reeeaaaallllyy
don’t like my plans changed last minute. We decided on an alternative reveal.
Back to the weekend. Now that everyone was back and fixing
lunch and hanging out (with no extended family in sight) we brought the box
upstairs. Hubs surreptitiously locked the door people might try to open from
next door and we brought our surprise to the table. We told his parents it was
for them, and we had seen it and immediately thought of them and wanted them to
open it. Hubs other brother, wife and their baby weren’t there yet (they
already knew about baby) so we said we were filming so they could see later.
Everyone was really really excited and surprised and called
us good secret keepers. Ok someone might have used the word ‘liars’ because we
were asked about babies last time we saw them a couple weeks ago. We explained
everything we knew so far and asked them to keep it a secret for us.
It looks like there will be a part 3 to this saga. I'm tired
of typing.
